Basic Info on Surgical Acne Treatment
There are a number of instances wherein surgical acne treatments are deemed necessary. Different procedures and techniques can be used to remove acne lesions. Comedones, which are more commonly referred to as blackheads and whiteheads are basically removed by a nurse, a trained esthetician, or a dermatologist. In these procedures, a comedone extractor is utilized. This piece of equipment will have a very fine and pointed tip which is capable of opening up the blackheads and whiteheads. Comedone extraction is not a permanent cure since new breakouts can still occur. This is the reason why this kind of procedure is usually done periodically. Retin-A is usually prescribed along with the performance of the comedone extraction procedure since this solution helps prevent new breakouts. For highly inflamed acne lesions, a procedure called I and D or incision and drainage is usually performed. This means that the lesion is opened so the pus can drain. Cortisone therapy is done with I&D procedures to minimize scar formation.
